First of all thank you for all helpful responses and support. It makes this easier.
We didn’t get much sleep last night. He kept whining and trying to re-position himself. I gave him all his meds, and he had no problem drinking water and eating wet food so hopefully it’s just this phase. I pulled the cushions off the couch and put them on the floor next to his bed and he seemed ok when I was petting him.
On a positive note I think he enjoyed the fresh air this morning.

Wow Toby! Look at you sitting so pretty and getting some fresh air. Those first nights are rough but it sounds like you are doing a great job helping him through it. Eating and drinking are great.
Keep up the great work, sleep when you can, oh and thanks for the update this is great news.

Toby is a cutie! My Rottweiler had a rear leg amputation 7 weeks ago, and I can say getting stronger. Just keep rembering he had a big surgery and it takes time to recover. That is what I had/have to remember. If Toby lives inside, I highly recommend getting some none slip runners or rugs if you have smooth floors. Helps tremendously (Walmart has a bunch). He is a beautiful pup! Hang in there!
