First night home

Quick Update:

Dr. Martin called last night and said that surgery went well. ย They were going to monitor him overnight and call me in the morning.

This morning Dr. Martin came in to Toby standing in his kennel ready to go. ย I will pick him up after work. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Congrats Toby! I’m so happy to hear that surgery went well. I know you will be glad to have him home. He is such a pretty boy and will be a beautiful tripawd. We found the first week to be a bit rough and Rusty and I had some sleepless nights but it got better. Make sure that your vet sends you home with tramadol (or another serious pain med) as we have all seen how tough it gets for dogs that are sent home without them! Stay ahead of the pain.
The fact that Toby is already standing is great news. He will figure out how to balance soon and will build muscle in his remaining legs. When he is ready I highly recommend physical therapy. Rusty and I are headed to an appointment this afternoon and it helps him to be more sure-footed and balanced! Rusty is three months post-amp now and doing great. If you have questions please let us know. This site has been an incredible resource for us. We are very happy to hear your good news and can’t wait to see how Toby does now -we predict he will be great!!

Just catching up in Toby!!! YAY FOR SURGERY BEING COMPLETED!!! TOBY IS HOME!! ๐Ÿ™‚

STAY CONNECTED. Recovery is no picnic for a couple of weeks. Right now Toby jist needs rest, good pain management and very short potty breaks and then more rest!

Peeing and drinking are important. Don’t be too concerned if he doesn’t have a good appetite for a few days and if he doesn’t poop for a few days. That’s “normal”.

Sometimes the blogs gomup and down pretty quickly. So if you have any immediate questions regarding recovery don’t hesitate to post in the forums for a quick response.

We look forward to cheering Toby on and celebrating all his victories! ๐Ÿ™‚

Try and get some rest when you can! You may have a few sleepless nights ahead of you!

    Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
